Student dilema-Demystified

Time!something we are always short of, and realize it late in life. In this post I'm not going to elaborate on that particular line, I think we all understand it quite well,but here i present some of my more personal thoughts on what and how the students of today should/can do.

Academics VS life:

One question I'm sure every student has asked himself/herself. (NOTE:here by life I mean things we like to do, to keep our-self happy). On my recent visit to SJCE this was asked by every student who came back to talk. Though we in our present day world have made academics to have highest priority, it shouldn't happen that, in order to attain the level in academics we miss out on the other subtle joys of life.which may range from various fields arts to science. Once we have understood this problem its roots become clear: our need to get placed and earn a HIGH salary to keep us happy.

Myth buster: money!= happy

so the solution i propose is to bring the placements out of our heads,though keeping it as an important factor but to reduce its influence on us.

Myth buster: good academics!=good job!=HAPPINESS

By now im sure most of the toppers/teachers/parents reading this have close this page, but for those who are still reading it: Academics is important!

Am i contradicting myself? NO. Im very much clear on what uve read till now!

So what am i talking?and how to make sense of it? The answer is quite simple, to enjoy what we study! We all (i assume) took up our Higher studies based on our interests and cause we believed we would do something with it.So now all we do is crib about not being able to do such awesome stuff,and bring our dreams into reality. Coming back to what we started: Academics VS doing what we like. Once we start enjoying our academics and understand what we learn practically we will surely end up doing something great and awesome!

Doesn't it take away my time?How do I study for exams? Yes it does take a lot of time!there is no denying that. But all this time is not wasted, you can sit and mug your subjects for the sake of exams OR you could spend some extra time understand what your text really says and then see it in practice then write the exam based on your practical knowledge, this way you get the best of both worlds. There is definitely a trade off- you cannot do everything practically, and it takes a lot of time, you may end up loosing 5-10 marks.

How will it effect my placements? Yes!!Drastically!! it can be a boon or a bane. Your company may like the fact that u understood everything practically and be happy or it can think your a smart person and send you home branding you as "Over qualified". But the point I would like to high light is: Your joy while doing something you love. (again it may vary from-arts to core science).

Another very common thing as students we do is to crib!We all have cribbed and blamed the system for what it is, for screwing up our dreams and what not!But does it ever serve the purpose?does the cribbing help us archive our dreams? This is something we all as students get stuck up in. blame the system and still do nothing but crib. Or max write a post like what I am doing right now:P But the important point what i stress here is: to keep the system aside when possible! to not let your dreams stagnate.

To let go of ones dreams and passions is to commit the most brutal form of suicide. -- Narcissist me!
