I recently saw a caterpillar in the garden and it got me thinking of its lifecycle. All it does since its birth is to eat. Eat as much as it can. And one fine day it just builds a cocoon for itself and undergoes a transformation. Out comes a butterfly. Does this caterpillar know about the existence of the butterfly?

Our life is not very different from that of the caterpillar. Here were are eating and preparing for the next. We don’t know when comes next. We just need to prepare for death. There are some hints from spiritual and religious traditions. But all we can do with that knowledge is reflect on it. Even thought it hardly makes sense to us. Just like the caterpillar.

Does the caterpillar know what sensors the butterfly will have in the next life? The caterpillar eats, while the butterfly doesn’t eat but only drinks. The nature, or essence of the act is to gain sustenance, But the tools used and experiences had vary.

The change of perception is so much even though they are in the physical same world. As a caterpillar, it can just move around in a short space. Barely a few meters from where it was born. And then, as a butterfly can it go several kilometers. To parts of the world that rarely existed for the caterpillar. Although they are in the same world, they sense and feel so differently, giving the perception that they are in totally different worlds. All this, just because the butterfly unlocks some new sensors and body parts missing from caterpillar.

Reflecting on that, its the same for us. When we die we awaken to completely new/different pair of sensors and that opens up new dimensions accessible to us due to some sensors. What we see, perceive, and access today is but a small portion of reality. Scientifically too, it has been shown that what we know is about 5% of reality. Nature is but a blueprint for us to reflect upon to learn more about ourselves and the world around us.
